📍 Point to Point
1
Select Point to Point at the top of the Measure tab. The button pulses while GPS warms up — wait for it to stop before tapping.
2
Stand at your starting point and tap Set Point A. Stay still while it collects a GPS fix. The display turns green when locked.
3
Walk to your destination. The distance updates live as you move — it shows how far you are from Point A right now.
4
Tap Set Point B to lock the final measurement. It's saved to your Log automatically.
5
Tap ↺ Reset to start fresh. Your log stays intact — only the points clear.
🗺 Trace Route
Route mode records your GPS path as you walk and totals up the distance travelled — useful for walking trails, golf holes, property perimeters, or any non-straight-line distance.
1
Select Route at the top of the Measure tab.
2
Tap Start at your starting point. The app begins recording a GPS point every 5 meters you move.
3
Walk your route. The distance display updates as points are recorded. The GPS point count updates in real time.
4
Tap ⏸ Pause to temporarily stop recording — useful at intersections or rest stops. Tap again to resume.
5
Tap Stop & Save when done. The route is saved to your Log and you can view it on the map.
💡 Route data survives a page refresh — if your browser reloads mid-walk, your recorded points and distance are restored automatically.
⛳ Golf GPS
The Golf tab finds nearby courses using OpenStreetMap data and gives you live distances, hazard info, satellite maps, scoring, and weather — all in one place.
1
Tap Find Courses Near Me. The app uses your GPS to search for courses within 20km that have hole data mapped in OpenStreetMap.
2
Tap a course to load its holes. A loading screen appears while hole data is fetched. Only courses with green data will load.
3
Choose your starting hole. A grid shows holes 1–9 on the left and 10–18 on the right. Tap any hole to start there — useful for shotgun starts or back-nine tee times.
4
The large number shows your live distance to the center of the current green. It updates continuously as you walk. Tap the number to open the Hole Details card.
5
Use ‹ › arrows or tap any hole in the scorecard to navigate. Moving forward auto-records par for the hole you're leaving if you haven't entered a score.
Hole Details Card
Tap the distance number to open the details card. Shows: front, center, and back of green distances; hazards ahead (bunkers, water) with TO and CARRY distances; tee box yardages from each tee. Tap 🛰️ View Hole to open the satellite map.
Satellite Map
The hole map shows the green (outlined in green), hazards (yellow = bunker, blue = water), and color-coded tee markers. Tap anywhere on the map to drop a pin — the distance bar shows FROM YOU and TO GREEN simultaneously. Drag the pin to update live.
Scoring
Use the +/− buttons to record your score. Tap the dimmed par number to instantly record par with one tap. The scorecard shows holes 1–9 on top and 10–18 below, with traditional markings (circle = birdie/eagle, square = bogey/double bogey). The running over/under only counts holes you've actually played.
Auto-Advance
Walk to the next tee box and the app automatically advances after 30 seconds. A green notice bar shows the countdown. Moving away cancels it. Works on the 18→1 wraparound for split-start rounds.
Finishing a Round
Tap Finish Round to confirm your round summary. You'll be asked if you want to save it to your Log. If you played 8 or 17 holes, the app asks you to review any assumed (auto-par) scores before saving.
Weather
The weather widget in the top bar shows current conditions once GPS locks. Tap it for a 12-hour hourly forecast. Weather uses your GPS position — no extra battery drain.
⚠️ Golf GPS accuracy depends on OpenStreetMap data quality. Hazard and tee data availability varies by course. Always verify with on-course markers for competitive play.
📋 Log
The Log tab stores all your saved measurements, routes, and golf rounds. Each entry shows a badge: POINT TO POINT, ROUTE, or GOLF. Golf entries show your score vs par and holes played. Tap any golf entry to see the full scorecard.
Viewing Detail
Tap any entry to see full details — coordinates, elevation, accuracy, and all unit conversions. Tap View on Map to see it plotted. Routes draw as a connected path; point-to-point shows a dashed line.
Renaming
Tap the name in the detail view to rename any measurement or route to something meaningful.
Deleting
Swipe left on any log entry to reveal the Delete button. To clear everything, tap the red Clear button in the top right of the Log tab.
Exporting
Tap Export JSON to download all your data as a file. Routes include the full GPS point array.
⚡ Lock Speed
Toggle between Fast, Medium, and Accurate when locking a point in Point to Point mode. Faster means fewer GPS samples. More accurate waits longer for a stronger, steadier signal.
🏌️ Golf yardages and property lines deserve Accurate. Measuring your driveway? Medium works great. Checking how far it is to Grandma's house as the crow flies? Fast — she's been waiting long enough.
☀ Keep Awake
The Keep Awake button prevents your screen from going dark while the app is open. It appears on both the Measure and Golf tabs. Tap to toggle — it lights up cyan when active. The screen will dim after 10 seconds of no interaction to reduce brightness, but stays on. Tap anywhere to wake it back up.
🔋 Keep Awake combined with continuous GPS will use more battery. Starting with a full charge is recommended for long sessions like a full round of golf.
📡 GPS Accuracy — The Honest Truth
Your phone's GPS is genuinely impressive technology. It talks to satellites thousands of miles away and figures out where you are within a few meters. That said, it has opinions about where you are — and sometimes those opinions are wrong.
🏠 Indoors
GPS signals pass through walls the way your motivation passes through a Monday morning — weakened and unreliable. Expect 30–100 feet of drift even standing still. The app works indoors but results may be creative.
🌳 Near Trees & Buildings
Tall objects block and reflect satellite signals, causing "multipath error." Your phone might think it's 15 feet away from where it actually is. Urban canyons are particularly bad for this.
📶 Warm-Up Time
GPS chips need a moment to settle. The Set Point A button pulses while warming up and lights up when ready. Stand still for the warmup and you'll get a noticeably better fix.
🏔️ Elevation
Horizontal GPS is reasonably accurate. Vertical GPS (elevation) is typically 2–3x less accurate. Treat elevation readings as a useful estimate, not a surveyor's measurement.
📏 Realistic Accuracy Outdoors
In good conditions with a clear sky, modern smartphones are accurate to 10–20 feet. GPS averaging helps tighten that up. For golf yardages, fence lines, and property distances that's more than good enough.
💾 Your Data
All measurements and routes are saved to your browser's local storage — they survive page refreshes and closing the tab. Data is stored only on your device and never sent anywhere. Use Export JSON in the Log tab to back everything up.
🐛 Something Wrong?
If the app won't access your location, check that your browser has location permission enabled for this site. On most phones: Settings → Browser → Location → Allow.
If the distance display seems wildly off, you're probably indoors or near a large building. Step outside, wait a minute, and try again. GPS is not magic — it just looks like it most of the time.
